"Oh, I almost had you", said my colleague after a loosing badly in badminton match at indoor court of our office. I was too tired to argue after that defeating him with 6 - 1 score and mocked, " yes, you almost had me."
It was almost 7.00 PM in evening and had to leave for home. We came back inside packed our stuff and set out for 2 km hike to main road from the office. The office was a Farmhouse and is located at far distance from the main road. There were multiple lanes and alley that we had to cross to reach main road and usually there were very few people in the lane with no street lights at all. It was routine for us to walk through the lanes talking, laughing and playing around.

In no time we were in one of the dark lanes with no visibility to the naked eye. "Don't you think it way too dark today as compared to other day", my colleague whispered in my ears as if someone is listening. I said, "It has to be dark it already past seven and winters are on there way". He responded with hmm and we kept walking.
"Hey, don't step on that dog" he screamed, pulling me towards him. I was taken aback with that scream and stopped there. I saw a dog sitting right where I was about to put my next step, he was black dog with shiny eyes looking right at me. I realized it was very dark to even see something so near to me. If he hadn't screamed at the moment I might have stepped on the poor dog and consequences could be terrible.
We moved forward, now more attentive on the roads and carefully watching our each step. There were trees and plants all over the place where even moonlight was not able to pass through those dense plantation, we realized we were in the darkest zone of the alley. Trying not show any fear on our faces we were walking swiftly to reach the light as soon as possible, Then suddenly a a dim light appeared at little distance from us. It was walking towards us. We couldn't see anyone from that distance as it was very dark.
I looked at the light continuously, the distance was reducing and I was trying to see the face of that person walking towards us. The light was moving to and fro as if someone is holding it and walking. It was coming closer at the same speed as we were walking towards it. I looked at my colleagues face he was too terrified to look at the light and was looking at the opposite direction trying to avoid any possible contact. The light reached very near to us and I was very curious to find out who that person was in spite of being so close to us still there was no sign if there was someone or not. It was pitch black and I could see nothing. Finally, we were right beside that light and still there was no one to be identified as person. The light crossed us and I turn back still to find out if I could see what was that but it just disappeared right in front of my eyes. It was again Pitch dark alley with no sign of human race.
"What was .....that?", I tried to utter looking at my colleague.
He replied in petrified but firm voice "Just keep walking, straight". I looked back again to get a idea but it was same dark alley.
Did you see that, I asked out of curiosity.
He said, "of course I did why do think I am walking so rapidly".
"but what was that?" , I asked, regaining my senses.
"I don't know, Okay. Will you stop asking", he replied, still recovering from the Trauma.
" I saw a light, just a light, coming to us and then disappeared suddenly as we crossed it, it disappeared", I explained.
"I know, it was not just a regular light, it was something was burning, like a cigarette, as if someone was holding it and walking towards us", he exclaimed.
He further added,"it was moving like a motion of someone's hand as we walk, to and fro".
I again thought of what he said by going in the Flashback and realized he was right. It was like a burning cigarette, with motion of walking and then it disappeared as we crossed it. It was even more realistic now.
"But how can it just disappear like that", I asked, still working on believing what happened. It might be just a illusion of light of something. But a similar illusion seen by two different people was a little hard to believe. A part of me wanted to go back and see what just happened but then something refrained me from doing so. I held myself back. we kept walking.
Now we were in the end of that dark lane, which rhymes with its original name which is park lane, the lights filled up the darkness, the noise of vehicles filled the long silence we were going through.
We had people around us, chirping and screaming.
We took rickshaw and headed towards Metro to reach home. Everything seemed normal again. But was it ?
